A Grade 11 pupil from Jeppe High School for Boys and a teacher from Hyde Park Secondary School in South Africa have tragically passed away. These incidents have left their respective school communities devastated.
The 16-year-old student, Kaiden Bowie, fell ill after playing a rugby match against Hoërskool Die Anker in Brakpan. According to reports, he collapsed shortly after leaving the rugby field.

Despite the efforts of paramedics on site and the arrival of an ambulance, Kaiden, unfortunately, did not survive. The Gauteng Education Department has expressed their condolences to Kaiden’s family and the Jeppe High School community.
In a separate incident, a teacher from Hyde Park Secondary School was found dead on the school’s sports grounds.
The educator was allegedly discovered hanging on Wednesday morning, and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
The Gauteng Education Department has taken immediate action to provide support to the affected school communities.

The department’s psycho-social support unit and counsellors from the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) have been dispatched to Jeppe High School for Boys and Hyde Park High School to offer trauma counselling and assistance.
Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane has expressed his deep sorrow and extended his sincere condolences to the families of Kaiden Bowie and the Hyde Park High School teacher. He emphasised the department’s commitment to supporting the grieving families and the affected school communities during this difficult time.
