A woman from Ballito, Durban whose identity remains undisclosed due to her having another minor child, is set to be sentenced next month for the tragic drowning of her four-year-old daughter.
The 46-year-old appeared in the Kwadukuza Regional Court on Tuesday, where she pleaded guilty to the heinous act committed last month.
According to her confession, the woman admitted to using duct tape to bind her daughter’s hands before submerging her head into a bucket.
She claimed that the child’s behaviour had been challenging and difficult, which led to her extreme actions. The incident came to light in April when authorities responded to a complaint regarding the death of a toddler at a residence in Ballito, located north of Durban.

The National Prosecuting Authority’s spokesperson for KwaZulu-Natal, Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, confirmed that the woman’s sentencing is scheduled for May 24th. The court will determine the appropriate punishment for this tragic and heart-wrenching crime.
