An elderly woman in Sasolburg, Free State, has found herself in hot water after an innocuous display of political dissatisfaction.

A video captured her using her crutch to dislodge a poster featuring President Cyril Ramaphosa, which has now reached the attention of the police.

Sasolburg police are investigating the incident, which contravenes election poster regulations. Free State Police spokesperson Brigadier Motantsi Makhele confirmed that the matter will be placed before the director of public prosecutions, who will decide whether to pursue the case.

The South African Police Service in the Free State has registered a case in accordance with the Electoral Act, Act 73 of 1998, which prohibits the unlawful removal and defacing of posters published by a registered party.
