On Friday, May 10, at approximately 3:30 PM, a group of unidentified suspects executed a house robbery at the residential premises of medical personnel at Jane Furse Hospital.
According to Provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, the assailants targeted four student nurses during the incident. The robbers, armed with firearms, threatened the medical staff, instructing them not to scream to avoid drawing attention to the unfolding crime.
The suspects made away with two iPhone cellphones, two Huawei notebooks, a Samsung Galaxy cellphone, groceries, clothes, and an undisclosed amount of money.
The total estimated value of the stolen items stands at around R70,000. The perpetrators were masked throughout the incident, adding a layer of difficulty to their identification.
Additionally, the hospital’s security guard was discovered tied up in another room, rendering him unable to respond to the emergency.
The swift and methodical nature of the robbery has raised concerns regarding the safety and security measures in place at the hospital premises. The provincial police are currently conducting an intensive investigation to apprehend the suspects and recover the stolen items.
