The Democratic Alliance (DA) initiated its campaign for voter registration in Soweto on Tuesday, ahead of the 2024 elections.
Party leader John Steenhuisen and party chairperson in Gauteng, Solly Msimanga, launched the campaign at the Soweto State Theatre despite the harsh weather conditions.

Steenhuisen addressed party supporters, emphasizing that only the DA, referred to as the “blue people,” possess the ability to bring about change in the lives of South Africans in 2024.
He emphasized unity among all supporters, regardless of race, as they are all “blue people” who will be instrumental in transforming South Africa.
The DA predicts that the ANC, particularly in Gauteng, will not secure an outright majority in the 2024 elections.
As a result, the DA has been engaging with other political parties in an attempt to form a coalition, known as the moonshot pact.
This coalition aims to govern alongside smaller political parties in Gauteng following next year’s elections.

Steenhuisen conveyed to DA supporters that the moonshot pact is crucial in order to enhance the lives of Gauteng residents.
Given Gauteng’s significance as South Africa’s economic powerhouse, he expressed optimism about the potential positive impact the coalition could have if it achieves over 50% support in the province during the upcoming election.
