South Africa has been chosen as the host country for the momentous 2023 BRICS Political Party Plus Dialogue, centered around the theme “BRICS and Africa: Partnership for mutually accelerated growth, sustainable development, and inclusive growth.”

More than 54 political parties from around the world are set to convene on the 18th of July during this event.

The dialogue will primarily focus on crucial areas, including global peace and security, inclusive multilateralism, strengthening BRICS and expanding its membership, as well as fostering partnerships for mutually accelerated growth and sustainable development.

Distinguished guests attending the summit in Johannesburg, commencing on July 18 at the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg, will include notable figures such as Jaoquim Chissano of Mozambique, Olesegun Obasanjo of Nigeria, Sam Nujoma of Namibia, and Laurent Gbagbo of Ivory Coast.

Drawing inspiration from one of the pillars within the ANC, namely “Better Africa, Better World,” the summit aims to establish alliances, both party-to-party and intra-party, to strengthen bilateral and multilateral relations.

These efforts are intended to deepen internationalism, solidarity, peace, and friendship.

ANC Deputy Secretary-General Nomvula Mokonyane, speaking on the sidelines of the party’s National Executive Committee meeting in Johannesburg, highlighted the active diplomacy taking place in South Africa.

She emphasized that the ANC subcommittee on International Relations has engaged with numerous political parties and foreign missions to foster collaborations and cooperation across various fields.

Mokonyane explained that the formation of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) seeks to consolidate the countries’ capacities and contribute to global economic growth.

She stressed the importance of diversifying options and eliminating dominance, asserting that the expansion of BRICS demonstrates the dynamic nature of the world and its geopolitics.

“It is crucial that we move away from a one-size-fits-all approach in the world. There needs to be diversification,” Mokonyane added.

She emphasized the need for appropriate conditions to prevent takeovers and dominance that could dilute the historic mission of BRICS.
