Passengers on a Putco bus in Constantia, Roodepoort, were successfully evacuated after the bus caught fire.
Images of the burning bus circulated on social media, depicting a bus engulfed in flames on 14th Avenue. The Johannesburg Metro Police (JMPD) promptly dispatched a unit to the area.

According to JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla, the fire division had already extinguished the fire upon their arrival, and fortunately, no injuries were reported. However, officers remained on the scene while waiting for the bus to be removed.
Putco spokesperson Lindokuhle Xulu confirmed that the company was aware of the incident. Xulu assured that all passengers and the driver were able to safely evacuate without any harm.

He further stated that Putco was working closely with the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire. Xulu emphasized the company’s commitment to passenger safety and their determination to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The Joburg Emergency Management Services Fire Division swiftly responded to the scene and effectively extinguished the fire. Traffic in the area remained unaffected, as confirmed by the JMPD.
