Police in Gauteng have initiated a manhunt to apprehend a group of suspects involved in a cash-in-transit (CIT) heist that took place earlier today on the Golden Highway, located south of Johannesburg.
Preliminary reports indicate that a gang of armed individuals intercepted a cash van travelling along the Golden Highway in the early hours of Friday morning.
The suspects proceeded to detonate explosives, causing the cash van to be destroyed. They then fled the scene, absconding with an undisclosed sum of money, as well as a rifle and two pistols that were taken from the guards accompanying the cash van.
It is believed that the perpetrators made their getaway in a blue Audi and a white Toyota Hilux.
The guards sustained injuries during the incident and were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Law enforcement agencies are currently conducting further investigations into the matter.
