The Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court has handed down a sentence to police sergeant Daniel Petrus Malukazi, 44, after he was found guilty of assaulting his ex-lover and her friend.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) conducted thorough investigations that led to the conviction of the police officer on two counts of assault.

According to Ipid spokesperson Phaladi Shuping, Sergeant Malukazi, who was stationed at Park Road police station, has been sentenced to a wholly suspended fine of R3,000 or six months imprisonment.
The suspension is conditional upon him not being found guilty of a similar offence during the three-year period of suspension.
The incident occurred on 13th February 2023 when Refilwe Moqolo, 39, was conversing with her friend, Tshepo Leota, 45, outside her residence.
Sergeant Malukazi arrived at the scene and accused Leota of being involved in a romantic relationship with Moqolo. He proceeded to insult and physically assault both Moqolo and Leota.
Upon receiving the report, Ipid launched an investigation that resulted in the charging and subsequent conviction of Sergeant Malukazi on two counts of assault. The court handed down the suspended sentence of a R3,000 fine or six months imprisonment.
