Gogo Maweni’s Assault Case Delayed Until October Due To High-Risk Pregnancy

Gogo Maweni’s Assault Case Delayed Until October Due To High-Risk Pregnancy

Makgotso “Gogo Maweni” Mofokeng, the outspoken traditional healer and reality TV star, made a brief but headline-grabbing appearance at the Protea Magistrates Court in Soweto on Thursday, 12 June.

She faces an assault charge related to a 2019 incident involving a woman allegedly linked to her former partner.

All eyes were on Maweni as she arrived in court visibly pregnant, dressed in a dramatic all-black outfit complete with scarf, boots, and a supportive pillow in hand. She was flanked by her husband and a small entourage of loyal supporters, highlighting just how personal and high-profile the case has become.

According to Daily Sun, the charge stems from an altercation that reportedly escalated years ago—but it was Maweni’s current medical condition, not the case details, that took center stage in the courtroom.

Gogo Maweni’s Pregnancy Complications Prompt Postponement

Gogo Maweni’s legal counsel, Advocate Riaan Gissing, made a compelling case for a delay, citing her health and the wellbeing of her unborn twins.

“The application on behalf of the accused is for a postponement. The accused is 29 weeks pregnant, going on 30. We have provided the State with medical proof that the accused was in the hospital from 1 June until the 4th. She was discharged,” Gissing stated in court.

He further explained that Maweni experienced intense cramping during a consultation on 10 June, prompting urgent medical advice for bed rest and no travel—a serious concern in what he called a “high-risk pregnancy.”

“The unborn children are innocent in this. Let’s grant them the opportunity to go through this pregnancy safely, and until then, the matter proceeds,” he urged.

The State did not oppose the motion, and Magistrate Genevieve Tyrrell agreed to the postponement after reviewing medical documents. “The court is satisfied with the medical documentation. The accused is experiencing a problematic pregnancy,” she affirmed.

Next Court Date Set for October – With Warnings Attached

The case has now been postponed to 15 October, allowing Gogo Maweni time to give birth and fully recover. But Magistrate Tyrrell made it clear that leniency has its limits.

Gogo Maweni remains out on bail, but the court issued a strict warning: “Failure to appear will result in a warrant of arrest and bail conditions will be affected,” said Magistrate Tyrrell.

Likewise, the four witnesses present in court were ordered to return on the new date, with a stern reminder that any failure to appear would also result in arrest warrants.
