The MK Party has appointed five new parliamentary whips in another shake-up of its caucus leadership, with the changes taking effect on 12 October 2026. The appointments include Emerald Kwenzokuhle Madlala, Sanele Gregory Mwali, Pinky Pearlgene Mngadi, Sihle Ngubane and Wesley Douglas. The reshuffle also saw Visvin Reddy, David Skosana, Zelna Saira Abader and Siyabonga Gama removed from their positions as whips.

MK Party Appoints Five New Parliamentary Whips

The latest MK Party parliamentary reshuffle introduces five new appointments as the party changes the composition of its whip structure.

The newly appointed members are expected to take up their responsibilities under the revised arrangement. The changes form part of a series of adjustments to the party’s parliamentary leadership since the 2024 general elections.

Among those affected are Reddy, Skosana, Abader and Gama, who have been removed from their respective whip positions. The party has continued to make changes to its parliamentary structures as it manages its representation in the National Assembly. The latest appointments took effect on 12 October.

Sihle Ngubane Returns To MK Party Whip Position

The MK Party reshuffle marks Ngubane’s return to a whip position after previously serving as the party’s chief whip. He was removed from that role in August 2024 and also lost his position as secretary-general. His latest appointment brings him back into the party’s parliamentary leadership structure.

Ngubane’s return comes amid continued changes to the party’s senior positions, including shifts in both its parliamentary caucus and national leadership. The party has repeatedly changed key office bearers since its formation under former president Jacob Zuma in December 2023. These adjustments have affected several senior positions, including those of chief whip and secretary-general.

MK Party Leadership Changes Continue Under Philasande Mkhize

The MK Party parliamentary leadership is currently headed by chief whip Philasande Mkhize, who was appointed in June 2026. She is the latest in a succession of chief whips that has included Ngubane, Mzwanele Manyi and Colleen Makhubele. The frequent changes have made the position one of the most affected roles in the party’s parliamentary structure.

In November 2025, former finance minister Des van Rooyen briefly replaced Makhubele following a dispute with parliamentary leader John Hlophe, before Zuma reinstated her. Makhubele was later removed, and Mmabatho Mokoena-Zondi assumed the chief whip position in February 2026. Mokoena-Zondi was subsequently dismissed and arrested on charges of fraud, extortion and corruption, which she is accused of committing in connection with financial contributions allegedly collected from parliamentary researchers.

The changes in Parliament reflect wider shifts within the party’s national leadership. In March 2026, the MK Party appointed Sibonele Nomvalo as its eighth secretary-general. Nomvalo is a lawyer, Member of Parliament and former ANC Youth League leader from KwaZulu-Natal.
