Watch| Nigerian Pastor Timothy Omotoso Seen At OR Tambo Airport As He Flees South Africa

Controversial Nigerian pastor and televangelist Timothy Omotoso is set to leave South Africa imminently, with video footage confirming that he is currently at OR Tambo International Airport.

His expected departure marks a dramatic turn in a legal saga that has dragged on for nearly a decade — and now appears to be ending not with closure, but with a strategic flight from the country.

Omotoso, who founded the Durban-based Jesus Dominion International Church, chose deportation after immigration officials re-arrested him in East London on May 10.

The Department of Home Affairs declared him a prohibited person, citing that his continued stay in South Africa was illegal. “His presence in the country is unlawful,” the department stated after his arrest.

Omotoso Acquitted in Court, But Not Cleared in Public Opinion

Earlier this year, on April 2, the Gqeberha High Court acquitted Omotoso of 32 serious charges, including rape, human trafficking, and racketeering. At one point, he had faced over 90 charges. The high-profile case captured national attention and ignited widespread outrage, particularly among gender-based violence activists.

Despite his acquittal, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has since announced its intention to appeal the ruling — a move that could have reopened the door to further legal action.

However, Omotoso’s sudden move to leave the country may derail those plans. If he boards his flight as expected, he will likely evade the NPA’s efforts to have him reimprisoned.

Congregants Rejoice While Authorities Scramble

In recent days, supporters of Omotoso gathered in song and dance outside court, holding pictures of the televangelist and celebrating his release. But behind the scenes, legal and immigration authorities were scrambling. Omotoso had filed an urgent high court application to challenge his prohibited status, temporarily blocking his deportation.

Still, in a surprising development, video footage emerged Sunday showing Omotoso at OR Tambo International Airport, reportedly with a flight booked out of the country.

While the court ruled that deportation could not proceed until his legal challenge was heard, his voluntary exit now appears designed to sidestep legal accountability.

If Omotoso leaves South Africa, he may escape the clutches of the justice system — but not the cloud of suspicion that continues to follow him.
