R8 is Audi’s fastest vehicle, the 2019 model is even faster and more powerful
The refreshed Audi R8 is now a reality. Rumors were bouncing all over the place as to what might happen beneath the cosmetic changes, with talk of a boosted V6 replacing the V10. Audi revealed that the R8 is getting an update with better handling, more drive settings, and an even more stunning exterior.

There’s no denying the R8 is a special car, not just in Audi’s line-up, but in the entire automotive scene. With a naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 engine, it’s a dying breed in a jungle of super cars with forced induction and/or electrified power trains.

The German marque has now disclosed a juicy tit bit that makes the R8 even more special by revealing each car built has to undergo public road testing.

In an interview with Auto car, an Audi official said technicians are tasked with driving a new R8 on public roads for evaluation in order to spot any problems before delivering the car to its rightful owner.

Manufactured in Neckarsulm, Germany, the high-performance vehicle embarks on a public road test of 40 kilo-meters to guarantee the R8 is in perfect shape.

Audi says it’s updated the suspension too, giving the R8 better stability and more precise handling. Improvements were also reportedly made to the steering for better response and feedback.

Dry, wet, and snow drive modes once again return as optional driver select-able programs aimed at improving all-weather drive-ability, and Audi claims braking has been improved significantly.

The R8 is said to need nearly five fewer feet to stop from 62 mph. And while 19-inch wheels come standard, lightweight 20-inch rims are available, as well. The front splitter is also available in carbon fiber, which reduces weight by 2 kgs.

Power still comes from a naturally aspirated V-10 engine offered in two different outputs. The base engine now makes 562 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque, an increase of about 30 hp and 7 lb-ft. Upgrading to the V10 Performance model now gives you 612 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque.

Those figures are up about 10 hp and 15 lb-ft. For the coupes, that extra power translates to 0-60 times of 3.4 and 3.1 seconds respectively. Choose the convertible version of either, and Audi says you’ll hit 60 mph only 0.1 seconds slower than in the hardtop.
