He is expected to appear in the Cullinan Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Monica Dube Murder: Second Suspect Arrested

The latest Monica Dube murder arrest was made by investigators on Tuesday evening after the suspect was allegedly linked to the killing. Police said the arrest followed an intelligence-driven investigation by the Gauteng Political Killings Task Team. The man is expected to face a charge of murder when he appears in court.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said investigators had positively linked the 39-year-old suspect to Dube’s death. The 44-year-old EFF member was shot and killed at her home in Wallmannsthal, east of Pretoria, in June 2026. Her family members were present when the attack happened.

The suspect's court appearance could provide the next development in a case that has already resulted in one arrest. Police have not indicated whether further arrests are expected as the investigation continues.

Monica Dube Murder Follows Earlier Arrest

The Monica Dube murder case already saw Sipho Lucky Mahlangu, 34, arrested in July. Mahlangu has made several appearances before the Cullinan Magistrate’s Court and abandoned his bail application, while he remains in police custody. He is accused of being involved in the attack that claimed Dube’s life.

It is alleged that in the early hours of 13 June 2026, Mahlangu and another man entered Dube’s home through a window. The pair allegedly went into her bedroom and shot her in the head while her children were inside the house.

After the alleged attack, the suspects are said to have fled with Dube’s cellphone. Mahlangu was later spotted at a taxi rank on 4 July by Dube’s daughter, who alerted police and led officers to his arrest.

Monica Dube Murder Linked To Earlier Shooting

The Monica Dube murder came months after the EFF member allegedly survived an earlier attempt on her life. According to reports, she was shot 11 times in March 2026 and spent several weeks in intensive care before recovering. Her subsequent killing in June has now prompted an expanded investigation by the Political Killings Task Team.

The latest suspect is expected to appear in the Cullinan Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday. Police say the investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to establish the full circumstances surrounding Dube’s death. Both suspects remain accused persons and have not been convicted of the charges against them.
