Cape Town School Shooting: JFK Gang Member Killed After Dropping Off Child
The 31-year-old was shot multiple times outside Heatherdale Primary School in Belgravia, with police linking the killing to an ongoing gang war.

A school drop-off ended in tragedy in Cape Town on Tuesday morning when a 31-year-old man was shot dead in his car. The Heatherdale Primary School shooting happened on Belgravia Road shortly after the man had dropped off his child at the school. He was attacked while sitting in a silver Hyundai Atos opposite the primary school.
Heatherdale Primary School Shooting Leaves Car Riddled With Bullets
The Heatherdale Primary School shooting happened at about 7.45am, when three unidentified men allegedly approached the victim and opened fire. His car was struck by several bullets, while spent cartridges were scattered across the scene. The man suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his face and upper body and was declared dead at the scene.
Athlone SAPS spokesperson Warrant Officer Zita Norman confirmed that the deceased was a member of the Junky Funky Kids (JFK) gang. Police believe the Heatherdale Primary School shooting was linked to an ongoing conflict between the Fancy Boys and JFKs. The suspects reportedly escaped in an unknown vehicle and have not been arrested.

Norman said: “On Tuesday, 6 October 2026, at about 7.45am, SAPS Athlone attended to a shooting incident at Belgravia Road opposite Heatherdale Primary School.
"On arrival, they found an Atos vehicle, silver in colour, and upon further investigation they found an adult male inside with several gunshot wounds. Several cartridges were found on the scene.
"It is alleged that the deceased dropped off his child when three unknown men approached him and opened fire. He was declared deceased on the scene. The deceased is a member of the JFK gang.
"Suspects fled the scene in an unknown vehicle. The motive for the incident is an ongoing war between the Fancy Boys and the JFKs.

Heatherdale Primary School Shooting Being Investigated As Gang-Related Murder
The Heatherdale Primary School shooting has been registered as a murder case, with police still searching for the attackers. Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel FC van Wyk said the gunmen approached the victim after he had dropped his child at school and fatally shot him. No arrests have been made.
Van Wyk said: “According to reports, the victim just dropped his child at school when unknown gunmen approached him and randomly started shooting at him, fatally wounding him. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his face and upper body.

"He was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The motive for the attack is believed to be gang-related. The suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested.
"Athlone police registered a murder case for investigation.”
The Heatherdale Primary School shooting unfolded as learners returned to school, with the deadly attack taking place directly outside the premises. Investigators remained at the scene as crime experts collected evidence from the area. Police have appealed to anyone who may have information about the shooting to come forward.
Heatherdale Primary School Shooting Prompts Support For School Community
The Heatherdale Primary School shooting has also led to support being made available to staff and learners at the school. Western Cape Education Department Director of Communications Bronagh Hammond said Safe Schools and psycho-social support teams were sent to the school following the incident. Counselling was also made available to anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or its aftermath.
"Staff from Safe Schools and psycho-social support are at the school to provide support. Counselling has been made available to those who may have witnessed the incident or the aftermath. Teaching and learning have continued as scheduled," Hammond said.
