Mamelodi West Twin Brothers Found Murdered In Their Home As Police Investigate
Police are investigating the murder of 14-year-old twins Bonolo and Botlhale Makoena, who were found stabbed inside their Mamelodi West home.

Condolences are being offered to the family of 14-year-old twins Bonolo and Botlhale Makoena after the brothers were found murdered at their home in Mamelodi West, east of Pretoria, on Friday.
The Mamelodi West twin murders have prompted calls for a thorough police investigation as authorities work to establish what happened. No arrests have been made, and the circumstances surrounding the deaths remain unclear.
South African Police Service (SAPS) provincial spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said officers were called to the house after the discovery of the children's bodies. She said the twins were found inside a bedroom with multiple stab wounds. According to Nevhuhulwi, their mother discovered the children after returning home from work.
Mamelodi West Twin Murders Under Police Investigation
Nevhuhulwi said investigators had not yet established the circumstances that led to the deaths of the Mamelodi West twins. Police are continuing with the investigation while seeking information that could assist in identifying those responsible. There has been no arrest in connection with the case.
The deaths have also drawn concern from Parliament, with Portfolio Committee on Police chairperson Ian Cameron describing the killing of the twins as deeply disturbing. Cameron said the children's family deserved answers and justice following the Mamelodi West twin murders. He also warned against accepting violence against women and children as normal.

“Two children were killed in side their own home and their family deserves both answers and justice,” he said.
Cameron called for investigators to use all available resources to establish who was responsible for the killings. He said the investigation needed to be properly resourced and capable of producing evidence that could stand up in court. He also appealed to people with information to approach the police rather than spreading unverified claims.
“What is needed now is a thorough, properly resourced investigation using every available [forensic and investigative capability] to identify whoever is responsible and build a case that can withstand prosecution.
We cannot become accustomed to children being murdered,” he said.
Mamelodi West Twin Deaths Raise Questions About Possible Motive
Prof Witness Maluleke, head of criminology and criminal justice at the University of Limpopo, said investigators should examine whether a family dispute could have played a role in the Mamelodi West twin deaths. He suggested that the killings may have been connected to an attempt to send a message to their mother, although the investigation had yet to establish a motive. Maluleke said preliminary investigative work should consider that possibility.
“The preliminary investigations should start there. Unfortunately, this resulted in the deaths of innocent souls,” he said.
Maluleke also cautioned against the use of extreme violence in dealing with personal disputes. He said emotions such as anger, jealousy and revenge should not be used as a means of communicating with or threatening another person. His comments came as investigators continued working to establish the circumstances surrounding the twins' deaths.

“Anger, jealousy and revenge should not be used to send a message to anyone,” he said.
Not In My Name International national spokesperson Boitumelo Thage also called for the police to conduct a comprehensive investigation and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice. The organisation has been supporting the family following the Mamelodi West twin murders and expressed its condolences to the children's relatives, friends and the wider Mamelodi community. Thage said the loss had left the family facing profound grief.
“No words can fully express the pain of losing two children in this horrific manner. We extend our deepest condolences to their mother, their family, friends and the community of Mamelodi,” said Thage.
“These boys had their lives ahead, dreams to pursue and a future that should have been protected. Their deaths leave a family shattered and mourning.”
Security Personnel Party of South Africa spokesperson Dimakatso Modipa has also appealed to members of the community who may have information to contact the police. The call comes as investigators continue their efforts to determine what happened to the Mamelodi West twins. Police have not announced any arrests in connection with the case.
