SARS Lawyer Shot Three Times In Assassination Attempt

In a shocking turn of events, a South African Revenue Services (SARS) lawyer, Coreth Naudé, was the target of an apparent assassination attempt in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).
The incident occurred on a Thursday afternoon as Naudé was arriving at her hotel parking lot in Durban North, near the Gateway Shopping Centre. Two gunmen opened fire, wounding her three times in the upper body, neck, and face.
KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda informed SurgeZirc SA that Durban North police are investigating a case of attempted murder following the shooting.
“Reports indicate that the woman had stopped at the boom gate when two suspects approached her vehicle and opened fire. The victim reportedly managed to drive to safety and she was rushed to hospital with gunshot wounds,” said Netshiunda.
He also noted that the suspects fled the scene in a silver or grey Toyota Corolla, whose registration plates were found to be cloned.
SARS Commissioner Edward Kieswetter has condemned the attempted assassination in the strongest possible terms.
“This shocking act is intended to intimidate officers of the court to abandon the vital work they’re performing in furtherance of our country’s legal system. It undermines the authority of the state.
“Acts such as these and those who perpetrate it must be resisted and defeated by all of us working together for the betterment of our country and ensuring that none is above the law,” Kieswetter stated. He also called on law enforcement agencies to act swiftly in apprehending those responsible for the attempt on Naudé’s life.
It is believed that Naudé was representing SARS in a tax inquiry involving controversial businesswoman Shauwn Mkhize, her company Royal AM Football Club, and other entities when she was attacked. This has led to speculation that the assassination attempt could be linked to her professional activities.
SARS has extended its wishes for a speedy recovery to Advocate Naudé and expressed support for her family. The organization emphasized that it will not be intimidated by such acts of crime and cowardice.
