SAPS Clerk Fatally Shot Outside Gatesville Mosque In Athlone

A 35-year-old administrative clerk from Kraaifontein SAPS was shot and killed outside the Gatesville Mosque in Athlone.
The shooting left a 56-year-old woman critically injured.
The shot, a deadly attack occurred in the parking lot adjacent to the mosque.

According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie, the two women were targeted as they exited their vehicle by two armed suspects.
“The suspects fled the scene after opening fire,” he confirmed.

The surviving victim was rushed to a medical facility for urgent treatment, though her condition remains undisclosed.
Murder Cases Opened
Athlone SAPS has opened a case of murder and attempted murder, now being investigated by the Western Cape Anti-Gang Unit.

The motive for the attack remains unclear at this stage, but authorities are not ruling out the possibility of a targeted hit.

Lieutenant Colonel Pojie has called on the public to come forward with any information that could aid in apprehending the suspects.
“We appeal to anyone with information to contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS mobile application anonymously,” he urged.

Police Hunt Gunmen
The name of the deceased officer has not yet been publicly released, pending formal notification of her family.
Meanwhile, the SAPS has vowed to leave no stone unturned in bringing those responsible for the fatal shooting to justice.
