President Cyril Ramaphosa will be delivering the eulogy at the special official funeral category 1 of former Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) leader, Mangosuthu Buthelezi. Buthelezi, who passed away at the age of 95, was not only the traditional prime minister to the Zulu nation but also the founder of the IFP and the first Minister of Home Affairs of the democratic South Africa.
The funeral proceedings, set to take place today, have already seen the Amabutho regiments paying their respects with traditional song and dance at Buthelezi’s royal homestead in KwaPhindangene.
As a mark of honour, a giraffe and other wild animals were also slaughtered. The family spokesperson, Liezl van der Merwe, confirmed that preparations for the funeral are going well.
The local municipality had requested Eskom to suspend load shedding in Ulundi until Saturday to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the funeral.
