The rumors of his supposed defection arose after Prince Thulani was seen in the company of Prince Mbonisi and Prince Buzabazi during a dinner event organized by the Bayede wine marketing company, which had the blessing of the late King Goodwill Zwelithini KaBhekuzulu.

In a video that went viral, the trio was captured in one room, along with former Judge Jerome Ngwenya, a close confidant of the late King.
