New details have emerged regarding the appointment of Jomo Sibiya, former KwaZulu-Natal MEC of Public Works and Human Settlements, as an adviser to President Cyril Ramaphosa.

An insider from the African National Congress (ANC) disclosed that Jomo Sibiya had been considered for a ministerial or deputy ministerial position by Ramaphosa. However, as these positions were not available, the decision was made to appoint him as a special adviser.

Jomo Sibiya’s appointment comes as a replacement for Bejani Chauke, who is now serving as Ramaphosa’s special envoy after resigning as an adviser following his election to the ANC National Executive Committee.

Sibiya had previously lost his MEC position last year when the slate he supported, which included former premier Sihle Zikalala, was defeated at the ANC provincial elective conference.

Media reports indicated that Jomo Sibiya expressed his commitment to being supportive, objective, and loyal to the president while maintaining independent thinking.
