Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has expressed his disapproval of the African National Congress (ANC)-run eThekwini Municipality for its involvement in a ‘s*x for jobs’ scandal that occurred in 2022.
Malema made these remarks during his campaign trail in KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday, coinciding with the final day of voter registration and ahead of the party’s 2024 elections manifesto launch at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in eThekwini next weekend.
In 2022, the eThekwini Municipality faced allegations that a senior official had been demanding s*xual favours in exchange for job opportunities and promotions. Speaking to a crowd in KwaMashu, north of Durban, Malema discussed his party’s plans for providing municipal jobs for the youth, emphasising that such appointments should be based on merit.
“We want you to secure jobs in the municipality because you are qualified, not because you engaged in s*xual activities with someone in exchange for employment. The ANC people are known to demand sexual favours before granting job opportunities,” Malema stated.

Malema’s criticism highlights the importance of ensuring a fair and transparent recruitment process, free from corruption and unethical practices. Merit-based appointments not only promote equal opportunities but also contribute to the overall development and growth of the community.
As the EFF gears up for the upcoming elections, their focus on addressing issues of corruption and promoting accountability within the government resonates with many South Africans who seek a more transparent and inclusive political landscape.
