The Democratic Alliance (DA) has exposed a failed ANC housing project in the Mangaung Metro Municipality, SurgeZirc SA reports.

In a statement made available to SurgeZirc SA on Wednesday, it was stated that the ANC-led Mangaung Metro had in April 2021 commissioned the RDP project, during which RDP houses were handed over to the residents of Hillside View in Ward 9 in Bloemfontein.

According to the statement, it was gathered that the RDP project that was commissioned by the ANC was never completed and that the handing over of the RDP houses was all a show to attract positive media coverage for the ANC’s election campaign.

The DA alleged that shortly after the ANC commissioned the housing project, the keys to these homes were taken back from the residents due to the fact that no sewage line has been connected to many of the houses in this area.

“The owners of these RDP houses have been waiting for 6 months for their houses and have received no feedback or communication from the government,” the statement reads.

Furthermore, the DA also alleged that the failed housing project has stalled due to a lack of funds for the completion of the last part of the sewage line.

“It has been reported that an application for more funding has been made to complete the sewerage line, however, there appears to be no end in sight, and these residents have been all but side-lined by the Mangaung Metro.

“In the poorly managed and bankrupt Mangaung Metro, residents such as these suffer from a lack of access to basic sanitation. This is typical of an ANC-run project – give the residents the illusion of service delivery and make more empty promises – a plot to get more people to vote for the ANC in the upcoming elections.

“The DA will put pressure on the provincial department of Human Settlements by insisting that the details of the plan to ensure the completion and handing over of these units is made public on an urgent basis, to ensure that these residents get the dignity which they deserve,” the statement concluded.
