Police Officers Arrested For Kidnapping And Defeating Justice

Two police officers, Sergeant Isaac Mathe Mokalolise and Police Constable Phumlani Dlamini, have found themselves on the wrong side of the law.

They were arrested on allegations of kidnapping and defeating the administration of justice. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has confirmed that the accused were released on R5,000 bail in the Khutsong Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

According to NPA spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana, the incident took place on March 13, 2024. The accused, along with two other accomplices who are still at large, allegedly went to the complainant’s house using a state vehicle.

They claimed to have exhibits belonging to the complainant and insisted that he accompany them to the police station. Despite the complainant stating that he had not reported anything missing, the accused persisted and showed him their service cards.

However, instead of driving towards the police station, the accused turned in the opposite direction. When the complainant questioned their actions, he was allegedly threatened with a firearm by the two accomplices.

Fortunately, the complainant’s brother noticed the commotion and followed the car driven by the police officers. He managed to stop the vehicle, leading to the arrest of the two officers.

During the bail application, Mokalolise and Dlamini both stated in an affidavit that they intended to plead not guilty to the charges.

They requested bail of R1,000, but the magistrate deemed the case to be serious and agreed with the state’s recommendation for R5,000 bail.

As part of their bail conditions, the officers are prohibited from entering the Merafong district, leaving their area of jurisdiction without informing the investigating officer, interfering with state witnesses, and possessing a firearm, even for work purposes.

The matter has been adjourned until April 26 for further investigations.
