Firefighters spent about two hours working to free the driver while advanced life support paramedics treated him inside the truck.

The Department of Transport confirmed that the maritime incident occurred on Wednesday, 30 September 2026. The uMkhuseli Emergency Towing Vessel (ETV), operated by AMSOL on behalf of the department, was involved in a man-overboard incident approximately 40 nautical miles off Mossel Bay during inclement weather.
