Woman Arrested For Kidnapping Boyfriend’s Son In Eastern Cape

According to Warrant Officer Ndiphiwe Mhlakuvana, the provincial spokesperson for the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, the suspect lured the victim by pretending to take him out as she had done in the past.

An Eastern Cape woman is set to appear in the Gelvandale Magistrate’s Court on charges of kidnapping. The 44-year-old suspect was apprehended on January 8th after allegedly abducting her boyfriend’s 18-year-old son.

The arrest was made by a collaborative effort between the Serious Organised Crime Investigation team, Crime Intelligence, Bethersdorp detectives, and Gqeberha hostage negotiators.

According to Warrant Officer Ndiphiwe Mhlakuvana, the provincial spokesperson for the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, the suspect lured the victim by pretending to take him out as she had done in the past.

The suspect, who happened to be the girlfriend of the victim’s father, picked him up in a white VW Golf 7 GTI and drove him to an unknown location. The incident was reported to the police, leading to a swift investigation.

Following the preliminary investigation, the suspect was apprehended, and the teenager was safely returned. It was discovered that the suspect had handed the victim over to her acquaintances.

The victim was held captive for a few hours before being released due to the pressure exerted by the investigating team. The VW Golf 7 GTI used in the kidnapping was later found abandoned and confiscated.

The accused woman is scheduled for her first court appearance. Major General Mboiki Obed Ngwenya, the head of the Hawks in the Eastern Cape, commended the investigating team for their diligent efforts in ensuring that the suspect faces the full consequences of her actions.

The case serves as a reminder of the importance of swift law enforcement action in cases of kidnapping and the dedication of the authorities in ensuring the safety and well-being of the victims involved.
