Family members of Segomotsi Setshwantsho, the woman accused of murdering her relatives for financial gain, expressed their relief as she was denied bail during her court hearing. Setshwantsho stood emotionless in the dock as the judge delivered the bail judgment, stating that she failed to present exceptional circumstances that would warrant her release.
The court concluded that Setshwantsho was not a suitable candidate for bail, considering the seriousness of the charges against her. Setshwantsho is currently under investigation for the alleged murders of her husband, son, and daughters, all of which were purportedly carried out to obtain life insurance payouts.
Relatives of Setshwantsho, who were present in the courtroom, breathed a collective sigh of relief upon hearing the judge’s decision. Some of these family members were even on Setshwantsho’s list of individuals for whom she had taken out life insurance policies without their knowledge.
Boikhutso Matolo, the sister of Bonolo Modiseemang, one of Setshwantsho’s alleged victims, expressed her fear and relief, stating, “I have been living in fear. Even now, yes, I’m happy she is denied bail, but I am still fearful when I think about what she could have done to us.”

Authorities believe that Setshwantsho had approximately 40 life insurance policies on various family members and relatives, many of whom were potentially targeted for harm. The denial of bail ensures that Setshwantsho will remain behind bars for the duration of her trial, providing some comfort to the concerned family members.
The investigation into these alleged murders and the extent of Setshwantsho’s involvement is ongoing as authorities continue to gather evidence and build their case against her.
