A sombre atmosphere hangs over Gqeberha Harbour as news spreads of a tragic incident that claimed the life of a 32-year-old woman. The victim, whose identity is being withheld until her family is notified, worked at the vehicle terminal and met with a devastating fate in the early hours of Thursday morning.
According to authorities, the woman was driving a Ford Ranger cab onto a vessel when the unexpected occurred. Witnesses reported that she suddenly accelerated, colliding with a barrier and plunging into the water. Despite her desperate attempts to escape the sinking vehicle, she was unable to do so, and the car disappeared beneath the surface.
Captain Janse van Rensburg, leading the investigation, expressed his condolences to the victim’s loved ones.

He confirmed that her body has been recovered from the water and transported to the mortuary. The identity of the deceased will be released once her family has been informed and given the opportunity to grieve in private.
Efforts are currently underway to retrieve the submerged vehicle from the ocean. Police divers and harbour authorities are working diligently to ensure the safe recovery of the Ford Ranger cab.
