In a significant development, two suspects wanted in connection with a series of cash-in-transit robberies, as well as house robberies and farm attacks, were shot and killed by the police in Verulam, north of Durban.
The incident occurred when the suspects’ vehicle was intercepted by law enforcement on Saturday.
According to spokesperson Robert Netshiunda, the suspects opened fire on the police, prompting the officers to retaliate. This exchange resulted in a shootout between the two parties. As a result, both suspects sustained fatal gunshot wounds. However, one suspect managed to escape the scene with a rifle and is currently being pursued in a manhunt.
It is worth noting that these two suspects were part of a larger group of 15 individuals who attempted to kill TRT (Tactical Response Team) members during a foiled cash-in-transit robbery in Nkandla back in August 2019. Although they were initially apprehended, they absconded from court after being released on bail.
During the confrontation, the police discovered a firearm in the possession of the deceased suspects, further implicating them in their criminal activities. The authorities are now focused on locating the remaining suspect and bringing him to justice.

The investigation into the cash-in-transit robberies, as well as the related house robberies and farm attacks, will continue as the police work diligently to dismantle the criminal network involved in these heinous acts.
