A joint operation conducted by members from the Amathole and Chris Hani Districts, along with the assistance of specialised units such as the K9, Flying Squad, and a private security company, has resulted in the arrest of five suspects in Komani on Thursday, 01 February 2024.
The operation, which was based on intelligence information, was initiated in response to a series of business robberies in Butterworth and Ngqamakwe earlier that day.
The intelligence-led operation led the law enforcement agencies to intercept a suspicious vehicle, a Ford Figo, travelling on route N6 towards East London.
The vehicle was successfully cornered and stopped, leading to the apprehension of the five suspects, aged between 22 and 35.
Upon searching the vehicle, the authorities discovered stolen items valued at approximately R120,000, an undisclosed amount of money, and two unlicensed firearms with ammunition.
The suspects are now facing charges ranging from possession of stolen property to possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, with the possibility of additional charges being added as the investigation progresses.
The five arrested individuals are scheduled to appear in the Komani Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 05 February 2024.
