In a horrifying incident that unfolded during the early hours of Sunday, three teenage girls—aged 13, 14, and 16—were abducted and brutally gang-raped while walking home from a street bash in Mmotong Makgofe.
The incident occurred around 2 a.m., leaving the victims traumatised and the community outraged. According to Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, the three girls had attended a street bash and decided to head home accompanied by three boys.
Along their route, they encountered a group of unknown men armed with grass-cutting shears and knives. When the boys noticed the assailants, they fled, leaving the girls vulnerable.
The suspects forcibly seized the victims and took them to the closest RDP (Reconstruction and Development Programme) house. There, they subjected the girls to multiple acts of sexual violence before finally releasing them.
The rapists fled the scene, leaving the victims traumatized and in need of urgent support. The Seshego police have opened three counts of rape in connection with this heinous crime.
However, the perpetrators remain at large, prompting a desperate search by law enforcement. Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has issued a stern directive to use all available resources to track down and apprehend the criminals responsible.
“We cannot stand idly by while these perpetrators torment women in such inhumane circumstances. They must face the full force of the criminal justice system,” emphasized Hadebe.
The community is urged to assist in bringing the perpetrators to justice. Anyone with information related to this case is encouraged to contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or their nearest police station. Additionally, sharing information via the My SAPS App can aid in the investigation.
This tragic incident highlights the urgent need for collective action against gender-based violence. As the search continues, the community stands united in seeking justice for the victims and ensuring that such atrocities are met with swift consequences.
