On Thursday morning, a tragic event unfolded in Mtwalume on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast. Three individuals were shot and killed in what appears to be an execution-style murder.
The victims’ ages remain unknown at this stage. Police spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker provided details of the incident.

According to Naicker, the incident occurred at around 11 am. The victims, who had just left the local court, were about to enter the main road when they were ambushed by suspects travelling in two vehicles.
The attackers opened fire on the victims’ vehicle, killing all three occupants instantly before fleeing the scene. It is also alleged that the deceased were robbed of their firearms.
The motive for this brutal attack remains unclear. Detectives at Hibberdene are currently probing the triple murder to uncover the reasons behind this heinous act. The community is urged to come forward with any information that may assist in the investigation.
This incident in Mtwalume bears a chilling resemblance to a similar event that occurred in the Western Cape last year.
In May 2023, a woman was killed near the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court. Police spokesperson Malcolm Pojie indicated that the woman was walking near the court when unknown gunmen shot her fatally.
Preliminary reports suggest that she was believed to be attending a court case as a witness and was followed out of court by the assailants.
