In a surprising twist in the ongoing Senzo Meyiwa trial, one of the accused, Bongani Ntanzi, has come forward to assert his innocence regarding the possession of ammunition. Ntanzi revealed that he has never seen the alleged ammunition, even to this day.
As the youngest of the five accused, Ntanzi took the witness stand to testify against the admission of two of his confession statements.
He admitted to signing these statements shortly after his arrest but maintained that they were obtained under duress. Ntanzi claimed that he was subjected to torture by the police, forcing him to confess falsely.
Ntanzi recounted the events following his arrest, stating that he was taken to the Moroka Police Station to make a confession statement.
From there, he was transported to the Vosloorus Magistrates Court, only to discover that the drug-related case against him had not been enrolled. After returning to Moroka, Ntanzi and the police proceeded to his home in Phokeng, where a search was conducted.

According to Ntanzi, the police left him in the car during the search and returned with a black plastic bag containing the alleged ammunition. He requested that they open the bag and show him its contents, but his plea went unanswered.
Subsequently, Ntanzi was taken to the Phokeng Police Station, where he was officially charged with the unlawful possession of ammunition. Remarkably, he emphasised that he has never been presented with the said rounds of ammunition.
