Security Officer Fatally Shot During Robbery At A Shopping Complex

According to Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, the provincial police spokesperson, the victim was shot while attempting to intervene in a robbery in progress at a cash loan company within the shopping complex.

A tragic incident unfolded at the Lebowakgomo shopping complex outside Polokwane on Tuesday, resulting in the death of a security officer who was responding to a robbery.

The Limpopo police have launched a manhunt for the group of armed men responsible for the robbery and murder.

According to Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, the provincial police spokesperson, the victim was shot while attempting to intervene in a robbery in progress at a cash loan company within the shopping complex.

Four suspects stormed into the company, brandishing firearms and demanding cash. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of money, a shootout ensued between the security officer and the robbers.

Tragically, the 48-year-old security officer sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. One of the robbers was also wounded during the exchange of gunfire, and his accomplices assisted him in fleeing the scene.

The robbers made their escape in a charcoal Ford Ranger double-cab vehicle with Mpumalanga registration number plates.

Following the incident, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the provincial commissioner of police in Limpopo, has ordered an immediate investigation into the robbery and murder.

The police are urging anyone with information that can aid in the arrest of the suspects to come forward. Additionally, they are seeking information about the suspect who sustained a gunshot wound and may be seeking medical attention at a hospital.
