A businessman who was kidnapped on Sunday has been successfully rescued in Diepkloof, Soweto.
The swift action by police led to the rapid arrest of 14 suspects within a day of the abduction. The police operation included raids on premises located in Greenstone Park and Sandton.
During the Monday afternoon operation, police seized speed point machines and a substantial sum of cash that had been withdrawn from the victim’s bank account.
In addition to the recovery of these items, two firearms were also found, one of which had been reported stolen during a house robbery in Linden last year. The discovery of these weapons adds a significant piece to the puzzle, providing evidence of the suspects’ involvement in broader criminal activities.
In recent weeks, police have intensified efforts to intercept kidnappers linked to syndicates targeting businessmen for large ransoms. The successful rescue operation in Diepkloof is part of a broader strategy to combat these criminal networks.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe emphasized the importance of community cooperation in these efforts. She stated, “Communities are urged to continue to report suspicious activities in and around their neighbourhoods to ensure together we deal decisively with these criminals.”
