A multidisciplinary team comprising various units within the South African Police Service (SAPS), led by the anti-kidnapping task team, has successfully apprehended six suspects on suspicion of human trafficking and kidnapping in Mayfair.
This operation resulted in the rescue of two Indian women, aged between 20 and 24 years. The team, in collaboration with private security agencies, received intelligence regarding a human trafficking network operating in Johannesburg, specifically targeting Indian women.

These victims were lured to the country with false promises of employment. However, upon arrival, they were forcibly held against their will and forced into sexual exploitation.
Taking swift action, the team operationalized the received information on Wednesday, 31 January 2024.
They raided an identified address and a commercial site, where they discovered a range of evidence, including cellphones, passports, documents, and cash. These items will be crucial for further investigation.
The six arrested men are expected to face multiple charges, including human trafficking, sex trafficking, kidnapping, and extortion. They are scheduled to appear before the court on 02 February 2024.
