Police spokesperson Joseph Swartbooi stated that the matter is under investigation, and a case of reckless and negligent driving has been registered by Mowbray police.
It is still unclear whether the truck driver has been arrested or not, and there is no confirmation if all the injured individuals were police officers. Eyewitnesses claim that the truck driver was driving recklessly when the heavy metal container came loose and slid off, causing significant damage to the police vehicles and two others nearby.
Kevin Jacobs, a spokesperson for the traffic department, reported that traffic officers promptly arrived at the crash site and closed off the two right lanes on the N2 inbound. However, these lanes have since been reopened, allowing the flow of traffic to resume.
