A tragic incident unfolded on the M35 near Folweni in the Durban South area, where a cash guard lost his life in a cash-in-transit robbery. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning, and emergency services were alerted to the scene just after 9 a.m.
Upon arrival, paramedics discovered that the area had been cordoned off by the police. The armoured van involved in the incident was found lying on its side at the entrance of a private property. Inside the vehicle, three guards were present during the attack.

Regrettably, one male guard in his 30s sustained fatal injuries and could not be saved despite the efforts of the paramedics. He was declared deceased at the scene. Another security officer suffered critical injuries and received immediate stabilisation before being airlifted to the hospital for further urgent care. The third guard sustained moderate injuries and was treated at the scene.

The incident will be thoroughly investigated by the police to uncover the events leading up to the robbery. As a result, the roadway remains closed to traffic to facilitate the investigation.
SurgeZirc SAreached out to KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda for comment. However, due to the active nature of the scene, he stated that the police were still collecting information.
