The incident occurred on Sunday when the officers responded to a distress call regarding a hostage situation at a residence in Klopperpark.
The suspect, who is the husband of the woman held captive, opened fire on the arriving police personnel, causing injuries to the officers and also shooting a family friend who was present in the house.
Upon receiving the complaint, the South African Police Service (SAPS) promptly dispatched a hostage negotiator and a specialised task team to the scene.
