In a heart-wrenching incident, four children aged between three and 11 have tragically lost their lives after a fire engulfed their home in Limpopo.
The incident unfolded on Friday night in Calais Village, located in the Maake area under Mopani District. The police have now opened an inquest docket to investigate the cause of this tragic event.
According to police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba, the children succumbed to the blaze despite efforts from community members and police officers who managed to remove them from the burning house.

Ledwaba elaborated that the mother had left her three daughters, aged three, seven, and nine, along with her 11-year-old nephew, asleep at home while she went to her mother’s residence nearby to collect food items for another child returning from initiation school. Upon her return, she found the house engulfed in flames, trapping the children inside.
The police have yet to determine the exact cause of the fire, and the identities of the children have been withheld due to the ongoing investigation. This tragic incident has cast a dark shadow over the community, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
