The Gauteng Traffic Police have impounded 29 vehicles operated as e-hailing taxis that did not have the necessary operating licenses.
The vehicles were impounded between Friday and Tuesday.

Images of the little yellow cars have been circulating on social media, with some being utilised on popular e-hailing and food delivery platforms.
The majority of cars ran in Johannesburg’s Downtown, Braamfontein, Westbury, and Noordgesig.
According to Sello Maremane, a spokesperson for the Gauteng Traffic Police, most drivers abandoned their vehicles and fled after being halted by law enforcement agencies.

“In terms of the National Land Transport Act, no person shall undertake a public transport service without an operating license or permit. We appeal to the operators to ensure they have valid operating licenses as they conduct their work.”
“We call upon the owners to refrain from using these vehicles as public transport without valid operating licenses. This kind of practice may also lead to taxi conflict which often result in loss of lives,” he added
