Tragedy struck on Saturday morning as a fatal accident on the N2 highway between Ballito and Tongaat in KwaZulu-Natal claimed the lives of three individuals.
The collision involved two cars, with one of them igniting into a fierce blaze after impact. The other vehicle veered off the road, coming to a rest on its side on a steep embankment.

Upon arrival at the scene, Medi Response paramedics declared one of the occupants of the second car deceased. Efforts were then focused on rescuing the surviving passenger, who was trapped inside the wreckage.
The paramedics, along with members of the Kwadukuza fire department, worked tirelessly for nearly an hour to extricate the patient from the mangled vehicle.
Once freed, the patient was immediately rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of medical professionals, the injuries proved fatal, and the individual succumbed to their injuries shortly after arriving at the medical facility.
Throughout the rescue operation, paramedics had to operate in close proximity to the raging fire as firefighters battled to extinguish the flames.

Miraculously, two individuals managed to escape from the burning car with only mild to moderate injuries.
However, the search for survivors took a grim turn when the lifeless body of a third person from the fatal accident was discovered inside the vehicle, once the fire had been successfully put out.
