Police in Saselamani, Vhembe District, have initiated a massive manhunt for three awaiting trial prisoners who escaped from police detention.
The escape occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning, according to Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, the Limpopo police spokesperson.
On November 2nd, at approximately 3:26 am, police officers conducting routine hourly patrol duties heard an unusual noise coming from the cells. Upon investigation, they discovered that three inmates had escaped through the roof.
The escaped prisoners have been identified as Mikateko Ronald Chauke, aged 33, who was arrested for burglary; Jimmy Mtivhele, aged 32, who was also arrested for burglary; and Dumisani Respect Chauke, aged 32, who was arrested for two counts of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba stated, ‘The police have immediately activated a manhunt for the three male escapees. They are all South African citizens and residents of the Saselamani policing area.’
The circumstances surrounding the escape are currently under investigation. Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the provincial commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, has ordered the police to prioritize the capture of the escaped suspects.
