A Durban teenager, who was reported missing by her family, has released a video to clarify that she left home voluntarily due to personal issues.
The missing persons report, shared on social media by her family, stated that she was last seen on January 21st at around 11am.
Private security company, Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa), also posted a missing persons report regarding the 17-year-old’s disappearance. However, a video emerged on Monday evening featuring the teenager explaining her decision to leave.
The video, resembling a live stream recording, was posted on the Facebook page of private security company, KZN VIP. In the video, the teenager asserted that she was not kidnapped or taken by anyone.
She emphasized that she was safe, healthy, and capable of taking care of herself. She also mentioned approaching the police for assistance but not receiving the help she desired “from the law”.
“I took the decision upon myself and I left home. I was not kidnapped, I wasn’t taken by anybody. I’m not dead, I am safe and sound. I have a place to stay and I am capable of feeding myself, like, I’m good,” she said in the video.
The video garnered over 300 comments, with many expressing support and admiration for the young lady’s courage and initiative.
Desire Rampersad commented, “Well done sweetheart, not many young adults have the courage to leave a situation where they don’t feel safe nor the ability to speak about their feelings. I wish you all the best.”
Elaine Appalsamy wrote, “I am extremely proud of her for putting out this video statement to explain her disappearance to the public. It must have taken a lot for her to do this, knowing full well that she is setting herself up for possible criticism and humiliation.”
Nirvana Subramoney added, “This child looks like she has a good set of head on her shoulders. Won’t an update help with awareness with kids or parents?”
The video serves to provide clarity and reassurance to those concerned about the teenager’s well-being. It also highlights the importance of open communication and understanding in cases like these.
