Police in Kwazulu-Natal have confirmed that a dramatic shootout resulted in the deaths of four suspects in Camperdown.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning, following the successful location of the gang in a rented room by a dedicated task team. The confrontation led to the fatal shooting of the suspects by the police.
Colonel Robert Netshiunda, a police spokesperson, released an official statement regarding the incident. He mentioned that Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, the provincial commissioner of KZN, is en route to the crime scene.
Netshiunda stated, “Four suspects were shot and fatally wounded in a shootout with police in the early hours of this morning.”

It has been revealed that the suspects were wanted in connection with cash-in-transit robberies, indicating a history of serious criminal activity. This adds a layer of significance to the successful police operation that resulted in their demise.
Meanwhile, in a separate but related incident, a suspect is currently under police guard at a hospital in KZN. This individual sustained a gunshot wound in a shootout with the police in Isipingo. The altercation occurred in the Malukazi area during the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Netshiunda provided details of the Isipingo incident, explaining that members of the provincial drugs and firearms unit acted on intelligence, leading them to execute a search warrant at a house in Malukazi.
The suspect, believed to be a drug dealer, opened fire at the police, causing one officer to sustain a minor gunshot wound. The suspect was subsequently arrested and found in possession of two firearms and ammunition.
Additionally, he was charged with the attempted murder of police officers. Further investigation resulted in the arrest of two other suspects who were found in possession of firearms and ammunition.
