On Sunday, a tragic incident unfolded at the Pavilion shopping centre, as a police officer lost his life during a daring jewellery heist.

The incident also left a pregnant woman injured, adding to the gravity of the situation. According to reports, paramedics arrived at the scene to find two separate active crime scenes.

The first scene was located at the intersection before the mall, where the police officer was shot. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition, the officer succumbed to his injuries shortly after.

The second crime scene was inside the mall, specifically at two popular jewellery stores. It was here that two females, one of whom was pregnant, were assaulted during the alleged robbery.

Advanced Life Support Paramedics stabilized both victims on-site before transporting them to a nearby hospital for further care.

As of now, the police are still investigating the incident, and an official comment from the authorities is yet to be released. This article will be updated with any relevant information provided by the police.

This is not the first time that the Pavilion shopping centre has been targeted by criminals. In a previous incident in May, a jewellery store at the mall was also robbed. At the time, a case of business robbery was opened at Westville SAPS.

The robbers had entered the store just before six o’clock on Sunday, 21 May 2023, brandishing a gun and ordering the staff to the kitchen. They then proceeded to smash the glass counters and shelves to gain access to the valuable jewellery.
