The bus was carrying around 50 people, including students, teachers, and a caterer when the driver passed out.
Augustine, who was sitting next to the driver, witnessed the bus swerving erratically from one lane to the next, which was unusual for the driver.
Augustine became concerned for the safety of everyone on board when he noticed the bus was heading into a construction pit beneath a bridge. He also spotted foam around the driver’s mouth, a clear indication that something was terribly wrong.
Augustine stepped on the brake without hesitation, causing panic and commotion among the passengers. The bus did not come to a complete stop despite his efforts, so the caterer and another teacher quickly placed a chock under the vehicle to secure it temporarily.
