Yesterday, eight individuals believed to be members of the alleged Al-Qaeda gang were remanded in custody following a shooting incident in Klerksdorp, North West. The accused are expected to reappear before the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court next week.
The arrests came after seven individuals were apprehended on Sunday, with an additional arrest made on Monday. The suspects are accused of attacking, shooting, and killing two individuals, as well as injuring nine others.
Reports indicate that a rival gang, known as Boko Haram, was present in a local tuck shop to collect a so-called protection fee when the accused arrived in four vehicles.

According to Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone, a police spokesperson, a conflict erupted between the two gangs, leading to a violent altercation.
“Subsequent to an argument that ensued between the two groups, Al-Qaeda gang members, armed with knives and firearms, fired several shots. As a result, members of Boko Haram were injured, and others fled the scene.”
Later that evening, members of the Al-Qaeda gang allegedly stormed a house in Extension 7 and opened fire on Boko Haram gang members who were watching television. Tragically, two males, aged 36 and 38, lost their lives, while others sustained injuries and were transported to the hospital for treatment.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing, and the accused will have the opportunity to present their case in court. The authorities are working diligently to ensure that justice is served, and the community can feel safe and protected.
