Nineteen students have been confirmed injured in the recent crash involving two buses near the entrance of the University of Johannesburg’s Auckland Park Kingsway campus.
The total number of injured individuals in the accident stands at 77.

According to the university’s spokesperson, Herman Esterhuizen, one of the buses was carrying students between campuses at the time of the collision.
Preliminary investigations suggest that approximately 19 students were on board the bus during the incident.
Among the injured, three students were taken to a local hospital for medical treatment, while the remaining 16 are currently receiving counseling and support on the campus.
In response to the tragic event, the University of Johannesburg swiftly mobilized various support divisions, including the UJ Medical Support Services and Campus Protection, to offer immediate assistance.
Additionally, the University’s Centre for Psychological Services and Career Development has set up counseling services to provide much-needed support to the affected students.
The cause of the crash remains unknown, and authorities have opened a case of reckless and negligent driving to investigate the incident further.
The university community and the public at large are deeply concerned about the well-being of the injured students and are hoping for their swift recovery.
