Newborn Found Dead Amongst Discarded Rubbish

The remains of a recently delivered female baby were found dumped amongst discarded rubbish at Hammond’s Farm in Waterloo, KwaZulu-Natal.

The tragic discovery was made by a scrap collector on Wednesday.  According to the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), their operations centre received an urgent call for assistance around 11:06 AM and promptly dispatched their team to the scene.

Upon arrival, reaction officers were met by the scrap collector, who guided them down a steep embankment to where the child was found. The baby was found inside a white packet, her umbilical cord and placenta still intact, a discovery that has horrified the local community.

The scrap collector narrated his experience to the RUSA officers, explaining that he had been scavenging for valuable items when he stumbled upon a black refuse bag.

Inside this bag, he found a blood-stained white packet, which he initially mistook for meat. However, upon further inspection, he discovered the tragic contents and immediately sought help from a nearby resident.

The response from the homeowners and reaction officers led to the uncovering of additional distressing items within the refuse bag, including blood-stained diapers, toilet paper, and a t-shirt.

The dump site is utilized by residents of a nearby housing complex to discard household waste, making the area a regular spot for refuse disposal.

This tragic event emphasizes the need for vigilance and responsibility within the community to prevent such devastating occurrences.

The authorities are now conducting a thorough investigation to find out the circumstances that led to this grievous situation.

It is imperative for community members to cooperate with law enforcement to ensure such incidents are not repeated. Any information that might aid the investigation is crucial at this juncture.
